BEN FRANKLIN MIDDLE SCHOOL
CLUBS AND ACTIVITES

BF Student Council (Mr. Tashian and Mrs. Dolgin)
The Student Council is the central governing body of Benjamin Franklin Middle School.  The object of the Student Council is to promote better citizenship and to assist and support the activities of the school (i.e. Spirit Week, Valentine’s for Valley, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, etc.).  Each homeroom elects two representatives that serve on student council for one year.  Students may be on student council one year or all three years of middle school. The role of a representative is to help promote, implement, and participate in all of the Student Council sponsored activities.  If a student is not elected to the Student Council, they can still be actively involved.  There are several opportunities throughout the year to help in the preparation of activities.

Weightlifting Club (Mr. Ran)
Open gym every Tues and Thursday from December through April from 3:00-3:45. Students are allowed to come and use the weight room under the supervision of Mr. Ran who will advise proper technique and offer suggested exercises. It's a "come and go as you please" club which means students can come and leave any time during the open gym period.  It's a great way to stay fit through the winter.

Brain Busters (Mrs. Pfeiffer and Mr. Tashian)
Brain Busters is a club for 7th and 8th graders interested in quiz bowl. We compete once a month, during the school day, against 3 other schools.  At the end of the year, we participate in the county competition at Bergen Community College.  We practice on Wednesdays after school.  Any student that likes trivia and likes to think fast, Brain Busters is the club for them.  New members are always welcome.

Ski/Snowboarding Club (Mrs. Rosolanko)
This club is open to all BF students.  We take trips to both Windham and Belleayre on Saturdays during the winter.  We leave the BF parking lot at 6 am and return at 6 pm.    Students may either rent equipment or bring their own.   Sign ups for each trip begins approximately 2 weeks prior to the trip.

Latin Club (Ms. Carroll) - Latin Students only
The Latin Club is run by Senators elected from Latin students in all grades.  The Senators choose the meeting date and time, plan the activities, decide on refreshments and what, if any, charity will be supported and how.  Meetings are open to any Latin students who are interested in participating.  At the end of the year,  Latin students attend a costumed banquet organized and executed by the Senators with parental help.

BF Singers (Mrs. Kawash)
BF Singers is a performance-based club open to students in grades 6-8.  The only requirement is a love of singing! The club meets every Thursday from 3-4 to rehearse music, and also has a Singer's Showcase once a month to encourage students to perform.  In addition to their March Concert at BF, the BF Singers also perform at the RHS Jazz Coffeehouse and take a special trip to sing for the students/staff of the Head Start Program in Paterson each December.

Broadway Bound (Mrs. Rothschild & Mrs. Rosolanko)
Broadway Bound provides students the opportunity to see Broadway shows in NYC. We take 2 - 3 trips per year and any student is welcome to participate. Tickets are be available on a "first come, first served" basis.

Cambodia Club (Mrs. Stovell)
A group of students who meet monthly to discuss the continued support of the Ridgewood Village School in Cambodia.  We plan fundraisers/events to teach the community about our sister school in Cambodia.

Social Services Club (Mrs. Van Horne)
The Social Services/REACT Club is a community out-reach club. Members are involved in donating time (such as helping at the Fall Festival), fundraising for local, national and international causes, and collecting food for local organizations such as Social Services Association and the Center for Food Action. Our biggest project is the Paterson Holiday Gift Drive which we do each December.  The club is open to all grades.

Math Club (Mr. Litvak)
A club for anyone interested in doing math competition problems that are not taught in their math class. This club meets on Fridays in B9.
